Dialectical Behavior Therapy for Children (DBT-C) is a specialized program designed to help children struggling with emotional dysregulation or Disruptive Mood Dysregulation Disorder. This includes children who experience intense mood swings, difficulty managing frustration, or an inability to control emotional outbursts — particularly for children facing conditions like ADHD, anxiety, oppositional defiant disorder (ODD), or mood disorders, where emotional dysregulation often plays a significant role.

Initially, therapy begins with twice-weekly 45-minute sessions or once-weekly 90-minute sessions focused on parent psychoeducation, equipping parents with the knowledge and tools to support their child’s emotional growth. As therapy progresses, phone coaching is added for both the parents and the child, offering real-time guidance to apply skills in everyday situations. Individual therapy for the child is paired with family DBT skills learning sessions, where the entire family works together to reinforce new skills and foster healthier interactions. Parents continue to receive ongoing support, and the child’s therapist actively participates in a consultation team to ensure the most effective, well-rounded care for the family.
